Seastar Survey widens horizons

Marine survey firm answers EEN call from Sweden

Seastar Survey in Southampton found its expertise in environmental, oceanographic and hydrographic services a strong lure for Swedish consultants specialising in biological studies of aquatic habitats.

Staff numbers have grown from seven to nine since they began the partnership with Medin Marine, based near Gothenburg. The tie-up has been just as successful in creating new business opportunities and jobs over there so has been nominated for an award by EEN West Sweden.

Marine services

Medin Marine, based near Gothenburg, carries out biological studies of aquatic environments to ensure plant and animal species are unharmed during building and infrastructure projects. It had posted a detailed profile on the EEN’s partnering opportunities database after attending a clean technology seminar organised locally by EEN advisers.

EEN in South East England took up the challenge straight away and found a strong match in Seastar Survey, which is located on Ocean Quay at the heart of Southampton’s shipbuilding and marine services business community.

Environmental surveys

The two companies were soon collaborating on five ‘live’ projects. They included ‘electric fishing’ to sample populations without harming the fish, environmental surveys and marine taxonomy assessments in Sweden.

Through EEN the exchange of knowledge and staff has been fantastic and we are helping each other move into new areas of work.
